A Long Time Ago This is the first Ross song that really captured me. In January, 1994, Jayne (Ross's wife) finally managed to talk him into doing the world a favor and playing his wonderful music in public. (Thanks, Jayne!) I happened to be hosting the open mike at a coffee shop when Ross came to play. I was completely starstruck, and I've been following him around ever since. Normally I can't remember a song until I've heard it at least 3 times, but "A Long Time Ago" stuck with me after just one playing. I was humming it that night and I surprised Ross by remembering it the next time I saw him. My minimalism got the better of me in producing this one. I kept wanting to leave stuff out, and Ross kept assuring me that things like bass and drums would not be excessive. He was right, as usual! I think the violin break is very reminiscent of Kansas's "Dust In The Wind".
