Yup, the Beatles wrote Maxwell's Silver Hammer, and it appears on side 1 of Abbey Road. Steve Martin really did sing it on a record, though! In 1977, Peter Frampton and the Bee Gees teamed up to make a movie titled "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band". The movie consisted of Beatles songs (from more than just the Sgt. Pepper album) sung by other artists. The movie flopped spectacularly, but many of the songs are memorable performances. Earth Wind and Fire's rendition of "Got to Get You Into My Life" is nothing short of fan-damn-tastic! Steve Martin performed "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" in his standup comic style, so it can't really be said to be a very *musical* performance, but it is nonetheless a lot of fun to listen to. I hope I've provided useful information as well as defended my honor ;^). You just woudln't believe how many letters I've received. One said that (1) I was too young to know it, but Paul McCarthy [sic] had another group before Wings, (2) Maxwell's Silver Hammer was only ever recorded by the Beatles, and (3) it appeared on the *White Album*! bzzzzt! But thanks for being older .
